31st of July 2006
July 31, 2006I have spent a lot of July ends for the past years. For the past 4 years, they have been the same - providing support for the month end closing for the plant. Today, I expected more or less the same, nothing different except for the fact that today is my last day at my Company A.
Just like any other day of my boring life, I woke up today and drove myself to work. I didn't put on anything special. It's just another day. I didn't care for a special announcement, special lunch or anything. I wanted my last day to be just the same - uneventful (is there such a term?) yet fulfilling.
It started out differently. I came in late (which is the usualy workday for me) and saw lots of balloons and pictures. It looked like someone's celebrating a birthday party - but those cutesy stuff are for me. Yes, I anticipated it (next time, don't go with the mushy excuses please?) but I really like them - thanks a lot.
The day progressed as seemingly ordinary. The usual problems with the system are still there, and the rest of the people working nonchalantly away in their own spheres. Pretty much the same, except for the balloons and pictures, the naked little boy from Mamu, the farewell token from Mawiz.
I have always wondered - why the sudden difference in treatment when people leave? Would there always be that special treatment? Well, no wonder lots of them wanted to leave… Just kidding.
And now, the end is near, and I face the final curtain….
I found my last day, just as the rest of most of my days to be long. I went to people I've worked with and personally said my farewell. I remember hiding in line with the tables to avoid the claps to be rendered by friends and unknown people at the other department. I ate my break, lunch and dinner at the canteen. I wrote my farewell note in a hurry, night time, and forgot a lot of friends (sorry!!!).
When I went out of the plant, and drove home, things seems to be the same.
This is the end of the day today. Tomorrow is another day.
The sun will come out, tomorrow,
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun…
